Saint-Gobain Launched new type of bearings- SPRINGLIDE™

2019-02-14

On the Innovative Seating Conference in Düsseldorf on 14th Feb, 2019, Saint-Gobain announced its new type of bearings SPRINGLIDE™, which makes it easier for automotive manufacturers to deliver the level of comfort that end users desire. It is an innovative new technology that combines the low friction properties of a PTFE lined plain bearing and the radial spring characteristics of tolerance rings. The result is a versatile energized bearing, which is easy to install for automotive manufacturers and ensures that end users have a pleasurable drive without the annoyance of unwanted cabin noise or difficult to adjust mechanisms.

SPRINGLITESPRINGLIDE

We are proud of our history of working with key players in the automotive world. Such experiences have made us aware of the challenges our customers face, for instance having to choose between torque and rattle in the design process. Our new remedy SPRINGLIDE™ guarantees constant sliding force over varying load, tolerance and misalignment compensation and zero clearance over lifetime to minimize rattle. We are excited to share this new innovation and look forward to co-designing new systems for comfort with our partners.” – Christoph Wirtz, Interior Market Manager for Saint-Gobain Bearings.

The new controlled low friction bearing SPRINGLIDE™ delivers a clearance free fit over a range of mating component tolerances, while its spring characteristics have greatly expanded the design possibilities in terms of shape. This opens up countless opportunities for car manufacturers to improve the driving experience for the end user. With drivers spending more time in their vehicles, there is an increased demand in interior comfort. More than how well padded the seats are, comfort affects all the senses. Annoying noises like rattle and difficult to adjust mechanisms can add to the stressful commute.

The combination of spring steel and PTFE means less risk for clearance conditions, which can otherwise cause rattle. This means that automotive manufacturers no longer have to create a tight bearing fit which would increase the adjustment force to undesirable levels. The result is a controlled friction component that helps to create a high quality interior.
