Abrasives is one industrial product to cut/grind/polish material to generate required shapes and surface. SG Abrasives owns world-renowned Norton, Winter, FlexOvit, etc. brands and is a world-wide leader in abrasives industry. SGR Shanghai has 6 R&D teams (Organic bond for Bonded Abrasives and Super-abrasives, Vitrified bond for Bonded Abrasives and Super-abrasives, Coated Abrasives, Thin Wheels, Construction Products and Grain Technology) and one Grinding Technology Center. The main responsibility is to develop new products for Asia-Pacific markets and transfer advanced technologies and products to worldwide Saint-Gobain Abrasives plants.
Some world-class new products have been developed by this team, like B36 and B37 for hot mill roll grinding and B39 for cold mill roll grinding, BZ23 for steel conditioning, gear processing by worm gear grinding and power honing abrasives, 2*Quantum & Best-in-Asia Ultra-thin Wheels for metal cutting, A288 for wood grinding and polishing in furniture market, V-power super-abrasives for auto industry crank and cam shafts, Invincible CP diamond blade for construction industry, etc. Some new products/technologies have been transferred to other regions like Europe, USA, Australia, Brazil and India to serve global abrasives customers. More than 20 invention patents were applied.
There are more than 20 research engineers in abrasives team and ~65% ones have oversea education background. It is a young and dynamic, passionate & energetic, initiative and cooperative team. And this team’s core competency and business contribution have been well recognized by Asia-Pacifica business and SG R&D community.
